I contacted the Delta Junction library, and they told me that the Goodpaster river is named after the Army surveyor who explored the area shortly after the United States bought Alaska from Russia. I do not know his first name, but he was in the Army around the turn of the century and a surveyor. The Army would be the next place to look for a complete name
