Re: Parts for a build
Hello John and Rick, before you go out and throw thousands of dollars onto this project, evaluate your tool and die skill sets. I apologize immensely if I offended you guys in anyways. The website pretty much stated that this is a serious project. I have 29 years in tool and die, production machining, and CNC, and I am thinking twice about starting this due to the time and commitment needed to finish. I can see it now, I will finish 8 to 10 pcs invest 100 hours of my time the holidays get hear and I never get back into it. Well that's me. to your question. A decent lathe and Bridgeport style mill can be purchased used on craigslist type sites for $2500 to $3000 the costly piece can be a 3 phase convertor and probably will need to hire a rigging company to move the equipment because it is generally just out of the abilities of us us buy beer and pizza for our buddies on a Saturday. A convertor can go as much as $300 and rigging will be another 3 to 500 dollars then come the big cost of tooling and measuring equipment. A decent Endmill can run for $35 to $75 dollars each and so on and so on...I am set up for this kind of work in my shop but I have so many other projects that I can be doing. If you decide to go ahead and get crazy post it back here so I know I may want to hire you to make me the parts for me either finished or just roughed out and I will finish them. This would be good for you and probably pay for you equipment. Good luck..Mark C
