Re: Barrel threading help
You can make or but a holder that goes into your tail stock hold/center stand. Just pop out the center or drill chuck you have in there and make a hold that holds the Die for making the threads. Then coolant and and use gentle pressuse to start the die as the lathe is spinning slow . After it starts you can let it go on its own or very slowlt turn the handle on your die setup so you know it dont stick. THOU make sure you atleast help it when your are in reverse screwing the die off. If you dont alot of times they will cross thread. Usually i help it both ways. Mine is made out of the key section that goes in And a piece of pipe with a wall thickness of about 3/8 of an inch. And i cut a recess into one end so the die will fit into it FLUSH. Still and tap 3 holes for the divets on the die so the die wont spin while its in there or pull out when you are in revers. Well the pipe piece on the key piece and prestoe. Now as far as the stock size goes. Depends on what size die you are useing .There are about 2-3 STANDE O.D. die sizes so what ever size you have make accourdingly. I thread alot of things with this method . It's quick , easy , and always strait.
