I did solve the problem for the most part as a tailstock die holder ensured the die was square with the barrel. A learning curve to be sure. As for the tap and die set, they are Chi-Com, you get what you pay for i guess. I threaded the chamber ends about 1/16" longer to allow me to face off the excess for flush fit. Next task will be the carrier block, and i dread that. In hindsight, think i'd been better off to have bought some of the part already machined out. Just trying to turn a 3" piece of brass in a 7X14 minilathe is a stretch.
