Re: Barrel threading help
Thanks for the advise, i'm sure i'll get the hang of it. I double checked the gearing for 20 TPI, using Dykem blue, i make a scratch pass, set the cross feed at zero, feed in with compound. Got to thinking, i remembered seeing an old timer use a flat flie to sort of flatten the top of the threads about every other pass. I'm turning the end to.435, 7/16 long with 1/16 runoff at the shoulder. And of course threading from right to left.I leave the half nuts engaged, and at the end of cut, back cross feed out, reverse the lathe to the starting point, set cross feed back to zero, advance compound .002- .003 per pass. I set the side of the threading tool at 90 degrees to the stock. No reason fot this not to work. Sorry for the mini novel, but didn't want to leave anything out.
