Re: Barrel threading help
Although i've used lathes for years, this is my first attempt at threading. Everything i've read says set compound angle to 29.5 degrees, threading bit set right, and feed in with compound. I use the cross feed back up the bit when i reverse back to make another cut. Another machinist says use the cross feed and forget about the compound. At any rate, it looks like a gosh awfull mess after about 3 passes. The top of the threads are razor sharp. Should i dress them down with a file and keep feeding in with the compound? In fustration, i spent half a day making a tailstock die holder just in case. Any advice would be of help. Thanks.
