Ron: I would suggest that 0.030" is too far inboard for proper firing
pin strike. We at CCI use a quill to smear the priming mix, a paste
like substance, under the rim. I believe that Remington uses a more
liquid like priming mix. Powder is placed in the case after priming
mix
is dried in both cases.
The Industry Standard for firing pin strike depth is 0.008-0.012" and
the firing pin should have a rounded edge and look like a
"chisel-point". Strikes should start at the outer edge of the rim and
go inward.
