I just picked up ten .30-40 cartridge with REM-UMC and .30USG headstamps. From what I've read, this indicates post-1916 production.
The odd thing about these are the projectiles, which appear to have tips reminiscent of the old 'Exploder' self defence rounds (a pistol primer over a BB, in the nose cavity of a hollowpoint bullet).
If these are legit loads, it strikes me as something that would have been cooked up for the .30 Gatlings. Has anyone read about such a cartridge?
