Gun is done, its firing about 500 rounds per minute. It will fire faster when I complete the stick mag. Currently, Im using a 200 round self advancing drum. I didnt leave any space for feed weights, so its a little slow with gravity feed.
Have fired about 2000 rounds to date. Using .22 shorts. I didnt machine the ejector groove in the carrier block, and have no need for it, cause the short rounds eject at about 8 O`clock. If the round doesnt fire, it ejects about 9 O`clock. Approx 2 out of every hundred rounds dont fire, I attribute that to my cheap ammo.
The most important thing is that every round gets ejected, and they do. Ejectors are very well tensioned, due to the rubber springs im using.
I`m not a journeyman machinist as some of you guys are, but I have 20 years experience as a machinist in the railroad industry, turning rail wheels and buinding hydraulic cylinders. Most of the things I put in my lathe have to be put in with a crane. I used my dads ww2 era South Bend lathe to complete this project. It`s 70 years old but, with the collets, does much better than the newer Summit lathe I`ve been using at work.
I cant say enough about old American metal working machinery.
Anyway, I wanna say to follow Pauls prints, you will get a high quality gun, everything works if ya follow prints.
Pictures of my gun are posted on the Yahoo Gatling Gun Site. I`m leaving to go on a one year job in Iraq with KBR in two weeks, as a civilian mechanic, I`ll catch up with u guys next year.
Thanx,
Ron Hermans
