Folks, the elevating plate IS supposed to screw to the base plate. Part of the confusion is, unfortunately, another mistake by me. The holes on the elevating plate are shown 45 degrees out of "sink" with the matching base plate holes. As indicated on the base plate drawing, it was intended to use countersunk flat head screws for a flush result. If it's of interest, this mounting system is something I created (mistakes and all) for the many builders who wanted to mount on a tri-pod and thus needed a "self contained" or independent "goes anywhere" mount and elevating system. Give me another 15 years, and maybe I'll get the rest of the mistakes out of this thing. Sorry. Paul
