: Dear Madelynn,
: I appreciate your time. I thought
: I would give you an update on my
: greys. out of the 5 I handreared,
: No1 Bibi,is still with me, I adore
: her and even though I had no
: intentions of keeping one, I fell
: in love the moment she opened her
: eyes, she is sat with me as I
: write, and is my girl for the rest
: of my life. No2 Cassie has gone to
: a lady who doesnt make a move
: indorrs without Cassie being with
: her!! No3 Mazwoll was supposed to
: belong to a really lovely man, but
: chose his wife instead!! luckily
: they are all happy with that, as
: Mazwoll is quite happy to
: entertain him as well! Albert who
: is actually a girl! and Sam the
: boy have after a lot of research
: and great consideration gone to a
: girl who worked all summer and
: every weekend to afford them both,
: I watched carefully the
: interaction between them and kept
: them beyond weaning to make sure
: it was the right thing to do. I
: did ask an avian vet and a few
: more breeders. As they were not
: from the same clutch I wasnt
: worried about interbreeding, but I
: didnt want them breeding for their
: new owner anyway, I got positive
: feedback from everyone, they were
: of the opinion that the birds
: would enjoy each others company,
: but as they were to spend a lot of
: time out of the cage with human
: company then breeding was highly
: unlikely. I have come to see what
: you mean about greys, even though
: I have a flock of 30 birds, of
: which 12 are different species,
: the grey is very different to any
: of the other species I own.I have
: been to visit all my babies in
: their new homes, I get a lovely
: greeting from all of them, and
: then they go back to their owners
: as if to say "ok, we love
: you, but this is mum, you are just
: auntie now" lol. I have open
: invitations to visit any of them
: at any time so will still keep an
: eye on them, after all they were
: my special babies for a long time
: rearing and weaning. Thanks again,
: input from a person who puts the
: bird first is always welcome,
: Midge
:
: Dear Midge, Sorry it took so
: long, I don't get to the computer
: daily,, or bi weekly for that
: matter ,,, hope my suggestion
: helps in your choice of what to
: do,,, the greys biggest problem is
: being too smart, advanced for
: birds, for their own good,
: frequently,, we humans fail to see
: them as individuals,, think about
: as Dr. Irene Pepperburg has said
: with her study of Alex.., you are
: dealing with a 4-5 year old child,
: with the emotional state of a two
: year old for 40-50 plus years
: ,,,and for being so smart,,
: emotional,, I do believe they
: should have the right to select
: their own pals, mates..,, I have
: many grey/parrot books in general,
: I forget which authors,, and I may
: have read something in birdtalk
: magazine where they can be finicky
: , selective about mates,,,if I can
: dig out the exact reference,, I
: will get back to you,,, but I read
: a boy can be on one end of cage
: girl the other,, and look at each
: other from afar... and thats
: it,,,... but as I mentioned,, I
: saw some bad things in the
: past..... If they were hatch
: mates,,, i'm not sure,,, look up
: some avian vets i think is best,,,
: and get several opinions,, I ask
: this only for the best of life for
: your birds and you.... i'm no
: expert, i just like to share info.
: with others, I love this species
: very much,, and all parrots,,, i
: would prefer they all stay in the
: wild,,, but,, my bird has a better
: life than me,,,,,,,, but if we
: share our lives with them,, accept
: the commitment,,, lets all do the
: best we can to provide for them,,,
: Good luck with everything,,,,
: Sincerely Madelynn
:
:
:Dear Midge,, It takes me awhile,, to respond,, sorry,,, I am glad to hear of such dedication,,, and your birds are well,,, I am happy when people give greys the respect they deserve, and often dont get,, i have seen many sad cases at the parrot rescue,,, of abuse, as well as other species of parrots, sometimes i get angry with people,,, very angry,,,,,, greys are very sensitive,, and i love to hear of people taking them serious, not as an ornament.....a breathing little person,,,, or little people i call them,, i call them companion animals,, most are a generation or two from the jungle,, unlike dogs/ cats,,, How many companion pets can see you gather items for dinner and say,, MOMMAS GONNA COOK SOME FOOD TIME TO EAT!!!!!!! MNNNNN GOOOOOD!!!!!!!!! as you serve the food ready to eat!!!!! my storm will say,,,,,I purchased a new toy for him,, the next day he said,, LOOK!!! I GOTTA NEW TOY!!!!!!! i never taught him that..,, i only said, look mommas got you a new toy,, they next day,, he said that,, he is amazing,, i love him dearly,,, and he knows it
,,,, take care and happy greying!!!!!!!!!! sincerely,, Madelynn
