: Our 4 year old grey, Mr. Peepers,
: has a large vocabulary and up
: until a couple of months ago,
: talked quite frequently and would
: go through almost his entire list
: of words and/or sentences. He
: suddenly stopped that practice and
: is now only saying 3 new words
: that he picked up which is all
: that he says! He also stopped
: whistling a few of his favorite
: songs and we've noticed that he
: doesn't play with his toys as
: much, either. He just had his
: yearly check up at the vet and
: everything was fine! We have two
: other birds, an active talking 2
: year old Eclectus and a Red Lored
: Amazon who he has lived with for
: the four years we have had him!
: He does everything with "the
: flock" and he gets ALOT of
: attention and perks! He has
: always been more taken with me
: than my wife, but he likes her
: alot, too. He was in a routine
: and knew about what time I would
: come home everyday for lunch, but
: I have since retired, eff. January
: of this year. I don't know if he
: has not adjusted to me being here
: more often or what! Could you
: provide an answer to our dilema?
: We are concerned about a possible
: behavior problem occuring which
: could lead to plucking!
: Thanks!

Hi! I'm just guessing , but maybe the change in routine with retirement requires some adjustment in his schedule,, are you sure the other birds are not doing anything to encourage his change in behavior?????? something going on while you are not looking or aware of????? my storm @ 5 months old never talked again 5 months after my mom died,, he was 3 months at the time, he is 6 years old now,, usually if health is good, it is an environmental issue,,,,, any new additions to the surroundings around him that could scare him???? new lamp?? flowers,,, anything new to his living space??? things like that,, it doesnt take much to spook them,, or shake confidence,,,, my bird started talking again at month 6 or 7 after mom passed,, have YOU??? changed since retirement??? how is your mood???? greys reflect owners moods all the time, they are very sensitive,,, but if health is fine,, and you are 100% sure the other birds arent doing anything,, i bet it is some major or very minor environmental factor!!!!! Best wishes,, Madelynn
