: Hi,
:
: I am really interested in getting
: an African Grey. The only question
: that I have is how old should it
: be?
:
I would get a bird weaned, {no longer taking in birdie formula) with food, like any parrot, as individuals,, they can go through stages of pickiness, please do your homework about greys begore purchasing one, seeds only minus nutritious fruits, veggies, will shorten your birds life and have a bad effect on its general well being.... not all parrots talk,, including greys, be aware of that possibility, plan for its life they can live I hear 2-70 yrs,,, more responsibility than a dog or cat,,, I volunteer in a parrot rescue where do to lack of education by owners, bird goes from home to home to home x 6.... it's sad,,, please be dedicated to these magnificent creatures,,,, check for parrot adoptions many greys can be available, hundreds of thousands through the U,S. so many parrots suffer..... as far as picking a favorite well greys can do that at any time in their life, again like most parrots, it cant be a promise your bird to be will not pick a favorite person, but most important really do your homework,, first, make sure you will have the time, energy, money, proper cage size, lots of toys, fruits, veggies very little if any seed,, please if you cannot see your future with you and your bird growing old together, a parrot would not be a good companion, or choice of one, they really bond with you and you become like a member of the flock.., family....Good luck with everything sincerely, Madelynn
: much of a problem as far as
: feeding is concerned. My other
: concern is that I would like it to
: get attached to me.
