cardboard is fine for him to chew.make sure it is free of glue and ink. Also Newspaper is fine the ink used is soy based and won't hurt him. I also use receipt tape can purchase anywhere. if he likes cloth give him material. like perhaps a baby receiving blanket or odd bits of cloth purchased at a walmart or fabric store tie in knots and then tie to cage.
