Posted by Renae Beaks grow just like our fingernails. I am the slave for six bird and three are African Grays. It happens to each and every one of them. Our Umbrella's actually like to have us flake the loose peices off then stand there for us to file them. I can even hear them clicking the peice as they come running to mommy for help. Its ok just make sure you provide lots of soft wood toys for your birds to play with. If they will allow you to lift it off then do so. If you do not take your bird to a vet for anual check ups it is a very good idea. Even having a CBC done on a well bird is a good idea. If your bird ever does get sick they have a normal CBC to compare it to. The vet will know if they should be checked for beak and feather disese. Kiss your bird for me, I love them all, Renae
