I have a Grey who is 6 years old. About 41/2 years ago he started pulling feathers. I have tried everything, yo no avail. We have been to the vet, I've tried sprays, and every other suggestion in the book. He still pulls feathers, but is still a great bird. He looks kind of funny, but is still a great bird. Good luck and let me know if you come up with a solution.
: I really Do not reccomend iodine, you
: should take the bird to an
: experienced avian vet, Iodine
: may cause the situation to get
: worse. Plucking is pretty common
: among african greys especially
: congo's. I suggest once you have
: seen a avian vet, that you buy
: the bird some more toys and
: rotate them about once a week in
: his/her cage, i would also get a
: good spray bottle and put it on
: a mist setting, you should try
: and give the bird a bath about
: once a day, ( please note you
: should keep the house warm ) you
: do not want the bird to catch a
: cold. But at the same time, the
: bath will allow your african
: grey's feathers and skin to not
: over dry, and become less itchy.
: Best of luck!

: try bird iodine it worked on my
: bird
: he was bald a lot he hated men
: and it helped
: :My 7yr old started feather
: plucking with no apparent
: reason. Fortujnatelky we had a
: aviarian vet who did biopsy and
: sent toU of Georgia and result
: said there is musclulature skin
: change but no apparent reason.
: Means physical problem not yet
: understood, but 3 years later,
: still plucking so supect now is
: habit. Still dynamic, smart,
: verbal lovalb BOO. don't know
: what to do.
