My parents.brother and myself moved to Gwylfa Hiraethog in 1951 where my father was a gamekeeper to a syndicate who owned the shooting rights to the moors mainly, Peckover Burrill, Colonel Stanley Weyman, Plas Gwyn, Llanychan and others. We lived in part of the house. My younger sister was born while we lived there in 1953. The place was shrouded in mist for 9 months of the year and the winters were hard and the weather unforgiving. We children attended school at Pentrefoelas and a taxi took us there every day.
The gamekeeper post became part time in 1955 and we left the place that year to live in neighbouring Hafod Elwy, where my father became a bailiff at Tan y Graig for Tommy Stewart Cox. We were the last inhabitants of Gwylfa Hiraethog.
