Then you can try doing some more debugging :-) Do you have any always-running debugger like SoftIce? Sorry for the inconvenience...

Hmm...
Try FD configuration dialog -> special/hooks page -> disable the General Hooking, and restart FD.
If this doesn't work you can try terminating all the other processes on the system (incl. explorer.exe !) and see if the problem with FD goes away. And/or you can try to stop all the services (control panel -> administrative tools -> services).
