window order changed on returning to virtual desktop

hi, i am new to this...so pardon and redirect me if this q is trivial. i have the foll pb: suppose i am in virtual destop 2 (vd2). i have 4 windows open. i move to vd1 and then back to vd2. the order of the windows changes! anyone can help me with that? thanks a lot, mat.
