You need the rest. Rest and ice are the body's (especially athletes) best friends. This site shows a good cycle for 8-9 weeks, showing a drop in weight right around week 6, then usually taking an entire week off after week 9 or 10. Gradually build, try a week with less weight, then build more for a shorter duration, then take a week off. Then you can start right back up again. The rest is designed to counteract a plateau or any staleness with your routine.
