Posted by Scott Ismari --Previous Message-- Explosive ballistic training is a good idea as long as you keep your form strict. I use this method from time to time just to change up my routine, alot of moves I use a "throw and catch" rep where you actually explode up off the bottom, release the weight and catch it on the way down. Keep your form you wont get hurt. Ballistic training also trains the nerves to respond in a different fashion then plain bbing reps giving you more power off the line, so to speak Desire, Dedication, Discipline Scott Ismari

: I've been trying to wrap my head around periodization training now
: that I'm sick and can't workout. One of my challenges is trying
: to understand the concept of ballistic training (moving around
: 50-80% RM at explosive speeds). I'm pretty sure this is
: ridiculously dangerous. Am I dreaming?

If you get 20 responses, you will get at least 15 different views. Periodization time lasts differnet lengths of time for almost everyone. Not set in stone but anywhere from 1-3 months is a good guess.
: PS: Some say do a heavy day, then a light, others say to
: procede with the same intensity for weeks before changing it.
: Is anyone willing to discuss this?
:
heavy day and light day in the same week is not a bad idea if your muscles adapt quickly, I use that approach frequently depending on if I work assist groups with major groups one day and then hit the assist groups by themselves a few days later.
