LOL, I like that "moving crap in and out" of the muscles. Well, that's exactly what I think, and have read up a bit on it as well. It's the initial water retention and swelling. Well, your muscles have been sedentary, and now comes this onslaught called resistance training, and the body's hormones start kicking in for maintenance and repair, and thaat takes nutrients, and water to allow things to work, and don't forget that the musles will start to suck up glycogen to be stored as a fuel, and that means water weight as well. Don't let it get you down, it's usually fairly temporary. Also, do a search at this site. I'm sure they have something on this in the kinesiology secion.

: Thanks Scott,
: I am talking about the immediate weight gain, say 2-3 pounds
: that occurs during the first week or so of starting out. As I
: said, I'm sure it's not muscle.
: I hesitate to say it in this place full of experts but my own
: theory is that you retain fluid because you need it to move crap
: out of your muscles. Don't know any of the technical terms...
: whatever it is that builds up as a result of 'abusing' your
: muscles with weight training.
