I am talking about the immediate weight gain, say 2-3 pounds that occurs during the first week or so of starting out. As I said, I'm sure it's not muscle.
I hesitate to say it in this place full of experts but my own theory is that you retain fluid because you need it to move crap out of your muscles. Don't know any of the technical terms... whatever it is that builds up as a result of 'abusing' your muscles with weight training.
