Weightlifting is hard work; make sure your muscles are totally ready to go each time you hit the gym. (I work out twice a week, and take a week off every 6 weeks or so. But I'm 45 and have been doing this for...36 years?!? Tempus fugit.) Get enough sleep. Get more than enough. Drink your water. Eat good food. Get enough protein, but don't go overboard. Try different exercises for each bodypart. Have some fun in the gym. And don't worry about the numbers written on the side of the dumbbells. Worry about proper form and all those things.
