interesting about the shade tolerance though I rather doubt the "quite shade tolerant" bit (at least in cool temperate areas). ecologically, most eucs are like most pines---they are part of rather open forests and few if any are part of dense or "closed" (as the Australian ecologists call them) forests EXCEPT as serial emergents after a fire or other disaster where the eucs come in first grow in full sun and other stuff eventually comes in under their shade. my best guess is that eucs (including urnigera which I grow here)are best grown in at least HALF sun (preferably afternoon). hope this helps.
