walt, thanks for writing back with the info confirming the grandis i.d. and the story behind their apparent non-flowering status. you had mentioned disease problems with your persea and am sorry to hear about the devasting effects on your (and everybody else's) landscape. FWIW, i am growing a number of persea spp. here in oregon including p. thunbergii (aka machilus thunbergii), p. japonica, p. bracteata (aka p.yunnanesis), p. liebmanii (aka p. podadenia), p. borbonia, and p. palustris---but NO avacado tree
