I put just a very light layer of soil over the top and I'm in the high desert with nothing but lots of sun. They're being started in large trays and then be moved to larger pots once they pop out with the first sets of leaves. We are expecting a cold snap so they are going inside for a bit in the past we've always bough seedlings but there isn't many places selling them anymore in CA so we are experimenting on growing them ourselves.
