interesting about the lacrimans and sad about its demise---FWIW, the O.P. was/is from the U.K. and their conditions are rather different from your area and fairly simular (but not identical)to the PNW. have you tried gunnii, neglecta,perrinniana and/or parvula??? would imagine that almost all of them would be happiest with good to excellent drainage in places with heavy soil and potential bouts of high summer rainfall.
