if it is a branch rather than the main trunk simply remove the branch. if you have serious concerns about the structural integrity of the main trunk, you might just consider cutting the tree back down to the base/ground level---most eucalyptus will sprout back strongly and you can then thin out the resulting mass of stems to a single or several trunked "new" tree. good luck.
