stake loosely and for no more than a year after planting OR cut the plant back to a size that is self-supporting under normal conditions (you can wait until after the bad winds subside)---the plant should quickly grow back and recover any size lost by the cutting and the temporary reduction in heigth should allow time for the plant to develop a stronger root system. good luck.
