yes you're right. I know that the soil in the alpine areas of Australia is covered with snow and the soil never frees deeply.
A friend of mine sowed in 2008 debeuzevillei seeds and give them stratification in the refrigerator, she got only 1 seedling. In 2009 she placed the seed tray outside during the winter and she got in spring more than 30 seedlings. So the seeds need to be frozen for a while.
I hope to find out if the freezer can give the same result within a week or two. Maybe the freeser will kill the seeds? But if I aint try it I'll never now.
