The Galveston Red River Gums did better this year in Floresville than last. Most were defoliated, but are leafing back out. Last year we had some significant winter kill.
My trees will be coppiced shortly as they get cut way back each spring (they were planted too close to the house). I keep them because they are good fuel trees for the fireplace. They have only died back one year (last) and they probably grow 15 to 20 feet per year after being coppiced.
I should get rid of them but hate to remove any tree in this area.
