wow, thanks very much for the detailed info---sounds like there are other factors (soil, water, disease) that can be a hassle for some plants as much or more as periodic cold. didn't notice if you mentioned previously but has anyone tried castanospermum australe aka blackbean or moreton bay chestnut??? a handsome large evergreen tree with gorgeous flowers that comes from the same areas as some of the ozzie ficus trees????
