Gus, tried to post a response to your "bingo" post but it doesnt seem to want ot appear on the main thread lines---in brief with all deference tg your greater knowledge and experience the tree in question but still does not appear to me to demonstrate the intermeddiate qualities one might expect from a possible hybid between gunnii and a member of the vernicosa comples. my experience with gunnii is that even older trees do not have 'ironbark" and the adult leaves are relatively short compared to the adult tree in the origninal post. once again the typical forms of vernicosa and allies have smooth adult bark and relatively short adult leaves which the proposed hybrid of the above do not. it may indeed be some kind of hybrid but could it possibly involve a series of crosses (maybe initially with vernicosa and/or gunnii)but involving other species than the ones already discussed over several generations???? excuse me if this ends up as some sort of double post.... ![]()
