Martin, you hold for sure one of the crown-jewels in Danmark! It will be very interesting to observe the offspring from this Eucalyptus "gunnit".
Georgeinbandon, I have always thought that the hardiness of a hybrid is somewhere intermediate between it's parents. In the case of nitens x perriniana the hardiness improved, and I would expect that f.i. a gunni x leucoxylon cross should result in tree with a frost tolerance in the range -10°C/-15°C?
I have found a site that helped me a lot in the clssification of all the species that are of interest in my climate because of their hardiness:
http://plantnet.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/eucclass.pl?sg=Symphyomyrtus
I guess it's a well known site for many people on this board. I have made a cross reference table (in excel) marking all known hardy hybrids that I could find.
I hope this will help me to identify the many seedlings that are not true to type when the seeds originate from gardens or parks with many different species planted together. The well illustrated story of Gus about gunni x nitens serves as an example for me.
My aim is now to create a pink flowering hardy hybrid ... any suggestions?
Which one might be the best parent: leucoxylon, sideroxylon, caesia or ...
