Interesting observations, George.
deanei is mainly a tree of highland valleys, whereas saligna is usually more coastal; however, some large saligna grow in the valleys at Barrington Tops NP, which is a fair way inland, and almost as high altitude. Probably grandis is the most tender, because it only grows in near-coastal locations N of Newcastle.
I think the deanei in these photos are at about 500m asl; the valley rim is about 1000m asl. There are some nice oreades in clefts on the way up, and stricta grows around the lookout where I took the last photo.
