most of western oregon has a climate similar to the portland area and can grow the same species. eucalyptus glaucescens is potentially one of the hardier species and has foliage with a distinctive sweet fruity fragrance. nitens is similar but a potentially huge tree that is more tender and may be badly damaged in severe winters (15f.---glaucexcens should be hardy to around 10f and will come back from lower temps from the roots). almost all eucs have fragrant foliage but most of the rest have sharper more medicinal odors. all eucs will benefit from being planted in well-drained soil in a sunny, warm spot protected from cold winter winds.
