well, because there is inherent genetic diversity in open-polinated seed there will be a certain amount of derived morphilogical characteristics within in any group of seedlings---i.e. some of the plants may NOT grow straight, some may have more gluacous foliage, etc,, etc. that said, once again i would suggest that if you havent done so already, check your potting soil for the seedlings, a fast draining/low fertility/"soil-less" mixture may be of some help. again, as you already know, some species are naturally more sprawling as adults and even as seedlings (gregsoniana, perriniana, etc.). also, have you tried cutting back some of the non-standard looking plants at some point and see what the regrowth does. good luck.
