Hi folks,
I apologise in advance as this question doesn't pertain to my Eucalypts at the moment but I'm hoping you can offer me some advice on this subject so that they are not effected by this pest in the future.
I have several mature oaks (Quercus robur) in my garden and over the past few years they have been showing signs of slowing growth and producing less and less foliage each season. This year is particularly bad and 3 very large specimens now seem very sick with several completely bare branches. I have noticed that in all of the affected trees there are numerous large (up to 2 cm diameter) holes in the bark all the way up the trunks. From the research I've carried out online I am lead to believe this could be the work of the European Oak Bark Beetle (Scolytus intricatus) or a related pest.
Does anyone know of any way that these pests can be controlled and if it's too late to save my infected trees? Also, as I have a good number of mixed Eucalyptus species maturing nicely, is there a chance these could become affected too or is this just a problem effecting Quercus sp?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Mark
