Hi all,
This year I sowed and raised a good number of Euc species including around 20 E. dalrympleana. However, only a single specimen - of E. dalrympleana - from all the different species raised has developed with a three leaf arrangement that has persisted from the cotyldons and first true leaves to it's current size (about 20cm). As you can probably see from the attached photos, the new buds are also appearing in groups of three from each leaf axis point along the main stem:

I would be interested to know if anyone else has observed this type of growth formation and whether or not it is particularly rare. Also, does anyone know if this 'mutation' is like to effect the plant's vigour as this specimen has grown rather slowly compared to most of the other E. dalrympleana raised this year from the same seed source. Finally, is this odd 'tri-folia' pattern likely to persist throughout the growth of the tree... I certainly hope so as it's really very attractive!
All the best,
Mark
