Hey Walt
It is very possibly you took pics of the bark and juvenile (or intermediate) foliage of Eucalyptus robusta, the Swamp Mahogany. Which is cited as relatively common in cultivation both in Florida and Hawaii.
You can confirm this yourself simply by finding some flower buds like these, or anything looking like...
E. robusta flowers, and bark.
E. robusta seed pods ("nuts") after seed release
E. robusta bark, nice trunks
E. robusta reddish timber (can be seen in any fresh cut, for instance, a pruned branch)
E. robusta lumber, making honour to the "mahogany" nickname
