Cadaghi (E. torelliana) I'm beginning to recognize them now!

Today I drove to a local golf course that has many E. torelliana trees. I didn't know the species until you guys (George and Gus) I.D.d it for me.
This time I got a photo of the developing nuts. I did a google and see this species is put in two genre. What's up with that? I also see this tree is undesirable, that it can kill local bees (does something to the hive wax, causing it to deteriorate) and that it is invasive.
Invasive? I looked around and didn't see any saplings growing. However, I guess saplings don't have a chance to grow from all the mowing around the trees. Plus I noticed the trees themselves had all their lower branches well cut (will post further photos).
Here's a photo of one tree (trunks):
Question: When these nuts mature (how will I know?), are these the seeds that will start new trees? If so, I want to collect some once they are viable.
