You are right Phil, there are some problems. General seed pod shape (for a single capsule) is not too far away from some of the Corymbia (not too far away from C. maculata, or according to Chippendale, more likely C. citriodora, apparently more slender according to that author). However, Corymbia seed pods (and flowers first) are arranged in corymbs. That means individual seed pods do not all "grow from the same point" which later is joined to a branch by a peduncle. The tree at San Fernando shows that arrangement (the typical for Eucalyptus). So I suspect it is not a Corymbia.
As you well say, bark does not match too well to a spotted gum either.
I think I have already identified it with some good chances, but I am preparing the graphic "proof" to back up my opinion. Will be up in some minutes
