I learned of this company many years ago when I visited the Cleveland Zoo and asked where they got the many different kinds of eucs they had on display there. I was just looking at their online plant listings and noticed something interesting.
The following appears in the description of E. Neglecta on the site: Winter hardy to -20F, will remain an evergreen in snow regions (Zones 5-6). Cold/snow tolerant.
Last year, I planted a very vigorous young Neglecta that I bought from Ian in a somewhat protected area here in Pittsburgh, zone 6b. About halfway through the winter when it dropped to around -2F once or twice, it died and never sprouted from the ground this spring, despite growing to an astonishing 4 and a half feet and being very heavily mulched. Is it possible that Australian Native Landscapes has a freakishly cold hardy provenance, or is the "-20F " "zones 5-6" business total hogwash?
