I agree that it is very possible that if you get some good old growth without harm, then even if something wrong happens later in a worse than average winter, they can recover well, and fast
If those hot and humid summers (good for growth or regrowth) do not imply effective drought, then those eucs of yours are quite happy
The Spinning gum comes from areas with damp soil, or at least somewhat moist soil by Austral summer. (e.g. not good for TX without some summer watering). The Omeo gum seems a bit more flexible in this sense
Joe made a good comment on the Hardy Palm Board about old specimens of E. perriniana, the ones at SSI (and other parts of the PNW) are certainly impressive! They get big
