Re the Spinning gum, I think you might be growing on the edge of its limits, but much depends on those very low temperature spells aproaching 0ºF lasting for a long time or not. 7b could possibly be considered "safe" for well grown up specimens except in the very worst winters. 7a is a bit more risky, but not at all a nonsense for this species. 8a seems "very safe". They do not care at all about winter minima in my 8b. The Omeo gum seems to follow the same hardiness path, but most of the "good news" come exactly from growers like you in the USA (TN, OH, GA, NC, VA...)
There are also some other results pointing to not expecting full hardiness, from DF if I recall correctly. May you see them go unscathed through many winters!
Seeing the glass half full, among a good number of hundreds of choices of eucalypt types, yours have some good chances there!
