thanks for posting your experiences and observations. never would have thought that niphophila would be especially happy with your conditions but am pleased to find out otherwise. would be interested to find out if most of your losses to various species was more due to cold or to heat or to ???? nitens is not surprising to me as it is apparently a cool climate lover---it is apparently prone to aphid damage here if conditons get very warm (or so one grower here on the oregon coast informed me). yet at my place 2 miles from the beach it is a wonderful tree healthy and extremely fast growing.
