Gus, Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, I am not sure what strain it is. I planted a couple rows of them (one of which too close to our house) thinking they would die during the winter. So far (perhaps due to global warming or something) they have survived and are growing fast (I guess they benefit from our perched water table at about 20 inches deep).
Relative to growth rate, what is the fastest variety that survives a z8 or z9 climate (lows in upper teens to lower 20s) and about how long would it take one of the faster varieties to become useable for woodwork? Thanks again/Bob
