Hello all,
I've read this board occasionally since last year, but have not actually posted anything. Just a note to say that I had sorta "experimented" last year by planting several species of Eucs in my back yard, and seeing if any would survive the winter (2007-2008). I'm located in Southern Indiana near Louisville, Ky. Lowest temp recorded at my house was approximately 5 degrees F., in February. It dipped below freezing at least 80 or more nights this winter (didn't keep a complete temp record......probably much more than that). I had planted (either from seed, or seedlings bought online) these 9 species: Eucalyptus globulus, E. camaldulensis, E. cinerea, E. gunnii, E. archeri, E. urnigera, E. glaucescens, E. regnans, and E. saligna. I can report that of those species, 5 of them have survived the winter. Only TWO survived fully....i.e. top foliage is OK! Those 2 are: Eucalyptus Gunnii, and E. Cinerea. Of the other three, the E. Camaldulensis' roots survived, and I already have a new tree of about 7 inches tall (and growing like a weed) coming up from the stump of last year's tree top-growth that had died off. Same with E. urnigera and E. archeri........both are coming up from the roots. Take care,
David from Clarksville, IN.
