The big negative regarding eucalypts is that they have a tendancy to lean toward the sunniest area. Why they do this so often and regular trees rarely do it is an enigma. If eucalypts would grow nice and straight without the need of staking(which I have found is often a necessity on many species!) regardless of the position of the sun they would have few equals in the world of trees! I have NEVER EVER seen a eucalypt here in Columbia, SC that is straight. Many are not even close, rather taking on the form of a crooked, twisted, gnarly and deformed figure of a tree. This species is usually Eucalyptus cinerea, so I have tried to introduce new and better species to change peoples idea of eucalypts here. I have been met with only moderate success but I'm still testing.
